A Guide to Poker Buy-ins

There are a lot of things that a person interested in playing Poker needs to be aware of, and one of the most crucial is that of the buy in. Limit and No Limit games each require different approaches, and you need to consider them separately.

Of course, the first questions that will have to be asked about is what kind of game you want to play and the type of player you are. Of course, if you are a high roller, then you probably do not need to worry about how much you should bring. However, for most players, the following can serve as a guide.

If you want to play limit Poker games, then you need at least 50 times the minimum allowable small bet. You will notice that online and land based Poker rooms allow you to play for very little, but you should bring in at least the mentioned amount. The reason is that you do not want to be short handed when the going is good.

If you are going to play hi lo Poker games you should have at least 70 or about 100 times the small bet. Although most would recommend the same amount as that of a regular fixed limit game, the fact that there exists the possibility of having to split the pot with another player means you need to play more hands to make more money.

For No Limit games, the buy in will be somewhat more complicated. The reason is that, with the all in option, you can lose your stack in one hand. Most of the time you will hear people say that you need 300x the big blind. A more suitable Poker strategy would be to play at a lower limit that will allow you to buy back in case you get stacked.

For example, if you have $200, then you should play at a No Limit level with lower buy ins (i.e., $50). This will give you more room to maneuver and time to play and win. Of course, you will need to check the tables and see how loose or tight it is, and make the proper adjustments.

The buy in is an important of any Poker game, and by giving it the thought and consideration necessary, you will be able to make the correct decisions and know where to play and make the most profits.
